    This position will supervise and participate in the maintenance of grounds, roads, and parking facilities within the State Capitol Complex, Governor's Residence, BCA, the I-94 corridor, the Minnesota History Center, the Retirement Building, and other designated areas. This position will also perform all the groundskeeping tasks of those supervised including snow removal during snow emergencies. Job duties include:

    • Plan and supervise grounds maintenance activities- repair of roads, parking lots, sidewalks, snow removal

    • Turf maintenance- mowing, trimming, raking, seeding, and sodding

    • Woody plant maintenance

    • Herbaceous plant maintenance

    • Irrigation systems maintenance

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three (3) years of experience in at least two of the following areas:

    • Groundskeeping at a large public or private complex

    • Irrigation management of a fully automated system

    • Facility management at a large public or private complex of buildings and grounds

    Experience must include at least one (1) year providing direct supervision and/or leadwork demonstrating ability to:

    • Influence, motivate, and challenge others; adapting leadership styles to a variety of situations

    • Organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine short or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; monitor progress and evaluate outcomes

    Plus:

    • Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement (or ability to obtain within first year of employment)

    • MN Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator's License (or ability to obtain within first year of employment)

    • Ability to work in inclement conditions

    • Posses a thorough knowledge of horticulture and current industry practices

    • Considerable experience and knowledge relating to the materials, equipment, machinery, and tools used in grounds operations and maintenance

    • Excellent written and oral communication

    • Ability to regularly lift 20- 30 lbs

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced turf/landscape management experience

    • Two or Four year degree in Horticulture or related field

    Physical Requirements

    A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL (CRT TEST REQUIREMENT MINIMUM IS MEDIUM, EX: ABLE TO LIFT 22-30 LBS FREQUENTLY 100-300 REPS AN HOUR).
